Rome- Pizzeria Baffetto

When in Rome, you must do as the Romans do… and also do as the tourists to Rome do. You have to see the…

The Colosseum at night.

And sit on the…

Sitting on the Spanish Steps.

Don’t forget to throw a coin in the…

Throwing a coin in the Trevi fountain.

Or you may never come back to see the…

At The Vatican.

Thus, you must also go to to Pizzeria Baffetto and savor the best pizza north of Naples and east of Brooklyn. If you arrive after 8pm (the restaurant doesn’t open until 630pm), you will be standing in a line. A lengthy line. Tables are given based on the number of people in your party, not what place in line you are in. And don’t be adverse to sharing a table with strangers. The wait is well worth it.

Yes, that is how the crust is suppose to look.

My first night in Rome, I went to Baffeto’s on a recommendation from Frommer’s guide and also a Google search for “Best pizza in Rome.” Got there after the summer sun had set, thus, I would be waiting in line. The view of scent of the pizza were enough to keep me waiting patiently in that line for nearly an hour.

Once inside, my tastebuds began to dance a happy dance. They knew they were in for a treat as we watched the pizzas being made and coming out of the wood-fired oven (the only way a pizza should be made). My first order arrived (it was so good, I ordered two whole pies that night) and I dove right in. Most pizza’s in Italy are whole pies that are not cut. You’re given a knife and fork to cut them with. I made my cuts and couldn’t believe how delicious it was. Our waiter was a very nice older man who seemed to know nearly everyone.

Ready to eat!

The next night, I went back, this time at 6:30 pm and got a seat right away. Same delicious pizza, same great service. Pizza Baffeto’s, best pizza I’ve had since Tony’s pizzeria in Neptune, New Jersey.

A pizza so nice, I ate it twice.

Pizzeria Baffetto is located not far from Piazza Navona in Rome. Please visit their website for more accurate directions, along with current restaurant hours.
