Pictures of the Week: Cherry blossoms in Tokyo

by in Asia

Upon going to see the beautiful cherry blossoms in partially full bloom at Inokashira Park in Tokyo, I could not decide on one “Picture of the Week” so I decided to post several. Come back in a few days for my journal about the cherry blossoms and the how they’ve helped Japan heal from the recent natural disasters.

Until then, please let me know what you think of these photographs. View all the pics by going to my photo gallery here.

What are the signs that Spring has arrived where you live?

The Creator in His finest hour. That is what I think when I look at the Japanese cherry blossoms. It is also what I think when I see the people riding in the Swan boat enjoying the ‘gift’ of beauty. The blossoms seem almost like an apology for the devastation of the earthquake.

      Excellent comment! Thank you!

Please allow me to introduce myself: My name is Stephanie Moore, and I am from St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. I moved to Matawan, N.J. from St. Thomas and finished high school in Matawan. Needless to say, it was a culture shock on many levels (i.e., the 60′s, small town, railroad tracks). Your mom and grandparents welcomed me into their home and made me feel comfortable. I have so many pleasant memories from that time – - your mom and I recently were able to reminisce. (She found me on FB after many, many years).
I work in Washington, D.C. so I was able to see the beautiful cherry blossoms here, and the people paddling down the Chesapeake. I really enjoy looking at your beautiful pictures and look forward to meeting you one day.

Nice to receive your comment, Stephanie. I appreciate your kind words. How were the cherry blossoms in D.C. this year? I saw them in 2009.

Me too Heather! Definitely a must-see if you live in Japan.

Gorgeous! I particularly love how the cherry blossoms are scattered over the lake – it would be a beautiful place to paddle around. I missed the cherry blossom season which was a shame.

I liked how they looked over the lake too. Even though it meant that they were blowing off the trees, not to return for another year, they still created a scene.
Paddling or rowing made the event even more surreal. I felt like we were part of a painting the entire time.

My favorite part of the cherry blossoms is when the wind blows and then it looks like its snowing.

Yes, I experienced that moment a couple times last week. It was beautiful to watch them fall on you like snowflakes.
