Pictures of the Week That Was

by in Cambodia

Hello friends! Back on the ship after four wonderful days off in Cambodia. Went from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh to Siem Reap and back. It was quite the adventure but that’s one thing I live for. Stay tuned for posts about my thoughts on Cambodia’s street children, returning to Angkor, where to stay in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, plus more from Hoi An and the sakura season in Japan. I know I am behind on my posts, but please be patient with me. Lots of things going on on the ship and it isn’t easy writing personal things when I have superiors constantly over my shoulder. In the meantime, here are some of my favorite pictures from the great week I had in Cambodia.

(not actual color of the sky) Photo edited in Photoshop CS5.

A young Cambodian dress as an Aspara dancer poses at Angkor Wat.

Young Buddhist walking through Bayon temple.

Yea, I know exactly what you're thinking.

Horroring reminders of man's injustice to fellow man at the Killing Fields.

Posing with Khmer dancers at Angkor Wat.

A woman prays in front of a Buddhist monk in Phnom Penh.

The faces at Bayon temple.

Racing through the streets of Siem Reap in a tuk tuk.

Stunning shots, Fidel !!! I really like the skulls picture. I’m not sure why I’m so weird being obsessed with skulls :p

Thank you DebbZie. Have you been to Cambodia before? No, it does not make you weird.

A great collection of photos! I absolutely love the vibrant orange color in the ‘Young Buddhist walking through Bayon temple’ photograph.

Thank you Annette! How are you by the way?
What’s funny about the photo you are referring to, is that I actually toned down the color in that photo. His orange is actually a lot more vibrant, lol.

I can’t believe that color was toned down! I’m doing well, just super duper busy. I’m having a hard time keeping up with reading all my fav blogs :)

I am as well. I really need to get back to my blogrolls and post some comments. Been reading, but I haven’t been commenting like I use to. What adventures have you been getting into lately?

Wow, these photos are amazing, I got chills from the one of the woman praying in front of the monk. Cambodia has such a sad history–I’m curious to hear your thoughts on traveling there. Most people I’ve talked to have said definitely go, but don’t stay for long, because it’s too sad. What do you think?

Thank you Andrea! I just wrote a post about the street children in Cambodia. That post may answer your question a little. As far as the history, I need to do some more research before I fully comment. Yet, you can feel the effects of the history all around you when you go to places outside of Siem Reap.
I could honestly spend weeks or months in Cambodia. I really enjoy interacting with the people, the food is amazing and there are a multitude of experiences to be had.

Am with @Annette, absolutely love the ‘Young Buddhist’ pic as well. The vibrancy of the orange against the black and white back drop really does draw you in, which I guess it was meant to. the rest are still as awesome too btw!

Thank you Gwyneth! That was certainly the effect I was going for. I appreciate the compliments. More pics coming soon here and you can check out a lot of the pics on my Facebook page.
